If you haven't gotten a chance to see Netflix's Bright, stop reading this and go...yes..now! Then come back and read this. So the question now becomes, do you speak Orcish? The language was created by master conlanger David J. Peterson, most notable known for his work on Dothraki. The Orc language called Bodzvokhan isn't called out much in the movie as being a fully functioning language. However, it is so in depth that it even has word borrowings from Russian due to its fictitious past! The language is agglutinative with minimal case markings and has a SVO syntax. This makes the languages building blocks on morphemes adding to one another, similar to English. Below is a picture from the movie set, where you can see the Bodzvokhan abjadic script. For you linguists out there interested in breaking this language down check out Petersons blog about the Orc language. Stay tuned for Part 2!
