To continue for last time, Netflix brought in infamous conlanger David J. Peterson to help build the world of Bright. We covered Orcish in the last post , so now the question is what about the Elves? In Bright we also got to see the pointy-eared characters speak a language as well. It is very clear that in this movie Elves rule the world. They are the upper class and are depicted as almost tyrannical in nature. Peterson took this into account when creating the language. The language has changed over the years but remains very insular which makes sense for the elves of Bright. The details of the language for you linguist can be found here, but in general the language is SOV with a total of 13 cases. Surprisingly to add to the languages complexity, it is also strongly head-final. As I was trying to wrap my head around this (headache soon followed) it gave me a little relief that Peterson himself stated, "I honestly still don’t get it" when discussing the inner workings of the syntax.
